Introduction
Intended use
The BioDryer is specifically engineered for the efficient drying of dewatered sewage sludge. It is intended for operation exclusively within wastewater treatment facilities or on the premises of industrial facilities, provided that all necessary authorizations for operating such equipment have been obtained.
To ensure safety and compliance, the unit must be securely anchored to the ground in accordance with local regulations. Additionally, the BioDryer should be operated in conjunction with an adequately sized odor abatement system to manage exhaust air effectively.
The BioDryer is specifically designed for drying certain types of materials (feedstocks) only. Use of the BioDryer to dry materials other than those authorized by Bioforcetech Corporation is strictly prohibited. Utilizing unauthorized materials can void the warranty and may result in damage to the equipment.
Feedstock characteristics
The BioDryer is specifically engineered for processing dewatered sewage sludge, which must adhere to certain criteria to ensure efficient and safe operation. The acceptable feedstock for the BioDryer is derived from dewatering methods such as centrifugation, belt press, screw press, or other effective sludge dewatering techniques. The essential characteristics of the feedstock are as follows:
- Shovelability: The material should have a consistency that allows it to be easily moved or manipulated with a shovel. This property ensures smooth flow through a screw conveyor, avoiding blockages and facilitating operational efficiency.
- Volatile Content: The volatile matter in the feedstock should exceed 50%. This is crucial for the biological process within the BioDryer to operate at peak efficiency.
- Moisture Content: The moisture level of the feedstock must not surpass 83%. This equates to a minimum dry content of 17%. Adhering to this moisture content range is vital for maintaining operational efficiency and safety.
- Particle Size: The particle size of the feedstock should be consistently less than 1 inch in every dimension. This size limitation ensures that the material can be handled effectively during loading and unloading processes, and allows for proper air flow during the drying process.
- Foreign Objects: The presence of foreign objects smaller than 1 inch in every dimension is generally acceptable, provided they do not exceed 1% of the total mass of the feedstock. Vigilance is required to ensure that larger or more substantial foreign objects do not enter the system.
- Liquids Prohibition: Introduction of liquids into the BioDryer is strictly forbidden. Any liquid content must be addressed and eliminated during the dewatering process prior to the introduction of the material into the BioDryer.
Adherence to these feedstock characteristics is essential for the BioDryer to operate effectively and efficiently. Failure to comply with these requirements can lead to operational issues and may impact the overall performance of the BioDryer.

Working pricipals
Utilizing controlled air and bacteria, the BioDryer dries biosolids through a three-phase process. Remarkably, it can process 8 wet tons of biosolids from 20% to over 90% solids within just 58 hours. When compared to belt and drum drying methods, the BioDryer requires only 50% of the thermal energy and 30% of the electricity, making it highly efficient.
BioDryer is designed to be modular. Each machine can work independently or together as a system, we can meet the drying capacity that you need. This type of solution allows for easier plant design and guarantees a quicker installation.
Built with Biology
Much like the control of oxygen, heat, and bacteria for sludge digestion, the Bioforcetech BioDryer uses air and bacteria to dry biosolids in a three phase process. This living process is so effective that our BioDryer system is able to process 8 wet tons of biosolids from 25% to 85+% solids in as little as 52 hours with only 50% and 30% of the thermal energy and electricity that belt and drum drying require.

Phase 1
Air is pushed through the biosolids to cultivate thermophilic bacteria, microorganisms that create heat. As these microbes release heat into their environment, the BioDryer chamber increases in temperature to 150°F and the water in the biosolids begins to evaporate.
Phase 2
The thermophilic bacteria flourish, generating large amounts of heat. This causes the bulk of the moisture in the chamber to evaporate without any external heat source. The BioDryer unit continues to modulate airflow in order to maximize this process. What is normally the largest energy toll on other dryers is completely passive in the BioDryer.
Phase 3
The passive heat has evaporated so much moisture that the bacteria are not able to proliferate further, reducing their energy output. To compensate, the BioDryer introduces an external hot airflow to finish off the drying process.
